Is that how you feel about religion? — Abby McCutcheon
“Both of my parents are very tradtional and we went to church every week. My parents even had me memorize the names of all the books in the Old Testament by the time I was 10. Private catholic school, high school, baptism, reconciliation, confirmation volunteer, faith formation classes, altar serving, eucharistic minister, summer bible camp volunteer, every little aspect I was a part of. At the end of high school, I felt a religious burnout as the catholic messages didn’t seem to align with my beliefs. This is still prevalent today as we saw that the catholic church still does not support LGBTQ+ relationships and marriages. I felt as if religion was trying to push all these messages but it felt very hypocritical as I still see people who identify as religious totally break their own morals and the morals of catholicism. I was so wrapped up and warped around this image as a perfect catholic, that it felt more of a chore to keep my parents and the community happy than from what I actually believed.”
